Almost as if they hadn't hired people whose judgement they valued.

Many of us agree with Digger, Diplopundit and the rest of those who comment here; the blogosphere is a wonderful medium for recruitment and, I would add, for retention. This semi-schizophrenic state cannot hold. It will be interesting to watch the inevitable retreat to ... one wonders what, and how much too late.Madam Le Consulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03445828950027582021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6897233608659313746.post-73942999497688632482010-01-08T11:07:28.579-05:002010-01-08T11:07:28.579-05:00Thanks for the comment, Hannah, Digger, thanks for...Thanks for the comment, Hannah, Digger, thanks for the comment and the link. I cross-posted the comment below in your blog:

Digger - I appreciate the link, thanks! You see all the new FS blogs sprouting when they get accepted and when they initially start training. And then nothing ... yes, as Hannah says, it is sad but -- not difficult to understand. The more get scared, the better. No blog, no mistake. I've noticed several more blogs go under/private in the last few months. I think if somebody delivers a gag order, maybe once or twice a year, that should do it.

I think part of the resistance is State's old view of the world. That only good, no great news is fit for public consumption. And if what you write is not vetted, how do they know it's not bad. Really, the agency trust you enough to do your job, but does not trust enough that you know the difference between sensitive and nonsensitive materials for public consumption. ROFL! I still think that in the end, it has to do with message control. There ought to be a warning:

Don't wander off the page. There are tigers beyond these lines. And they are trained to bite.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6897233608659313746.post-60441791627157907932010-01-08T10:08:18.102-05:002010-01-08T10:08:18.102-05:00I have linked to your piece here: http://lifeafter...I have linked to your piece here: http://lifeafterjerusalem.blogspot.com/2010/01/blogging-in-foreign-service.htmlDiggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03856750834804127824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6897233608659313746.post-5172257652288130492010-01-08T09:39:33.560-05:002010-01-08T09:39:33.560-05:00Man, I hate that!
