NCIS logoImage via WikipediaGibbs' NCIS always get their guy. Heh!  This one for real. In a casino. In Angeles city, but not Los Angeles.

We have previously posted about Dario Thomas, 51, a DHS employee who worked in customs in the south-eastern port city of Busan, in South Korea and vanished into thin air reportedly two days before his diplomatic immunity was revoked earlier this year.

Wanted US diplomat caught in Angeles casino

A FUGITIVE US diplomat had been arrested in Angeles City while playing in a casino, Angeles police chief Danilo Bautista said Friday.

Filipino-American Dario Tomas, a former Department of Homeland Security official, gave up peacefully when collared by agents of the US Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Angeles policemen at the Casino Filipino Thursday midnight, Bautista said.

Tomas, 51, fled South Korea in early March after being accused of fraud. The Korean foreign ministry said in a statement that Seoul would formally request his extradition to stand trial in South Korea.

Tomas, who is also wanted in California in connection with a 240,000-dollar wire fraud, checked shipping containers in the port of Busan for Homeland Security before he fled to the Philippines.

Police have accused him of swindling a South Korean widow out of 220 million won ($200,000) by asking her to invest in a computer training school in the Philippines.

In March, a federal grand jury in San Diego, California, charged him with defrauding investors by falsely promising to open the computer school.

Active links added above. The US Attorney's press release did not identify Thomas' job title, only that he was "an employee of the Department of Homeland Security stationed in Busan, Korea."

He was charged with "Wire Fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1343 Maximum Penalties: 20 years in custody and/or $250,000 fine."

The PR statement also identified the agency as the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (DHS/ICE).

This is a criminal case and the defendant is presumed innocent until the Government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The press release on the March 12 indictment from the US Attorney Southern District of California is here.
