Quickie: AFSA Needs Input

In case you've missed this. Here is a message from AFSA State VP Steve Kashkett specifically addressed to State Foreign Service members.

AFSA will soon present to the new administration's Transition Team at State our priority list of problems and recommendations regarding the Foreign Service career, from the perspective of our membership. We anticipate addressing the main issues surrounding the need for appropriate funding and staffing for diplomacy, the concerns related to our diplomatic missions in the two war zones, the requirements for an employee- and family-friendly FS career, our hopes with regard to non-career political appointees, and the role of the professional Foreign Service in managing diplomacy and foreign policy. In order to reflect accurately the point of view of our State members in our message to the Transition Team, AFSA is seeking your input.

As we did in fall 2005, 2006, and 2007, we have just launched an online survey of the opinions of the active-duty State membership on a number of vital issues on which AFSA is engaged. This is a quick, easy, web-based survey that contains 23 mostly multiple-choice questions and can be completed in just a few minutes. This is an important task - our previous electronic survey got more than 4,300 responses from State members at virtually every post worldwide, and we hope for a stronger turnout this time!

Help us craft our message to the Transition Team, to the next Secretary of State, and to the new Congress. Please take this quick survey NOW and forward this survey link to all your active-duty State colleagues. Here is the link:
