SFRC Approves HRC's Nomination 16-1

01/15/2009: Senate Foreign Relations Committee Overwhelmingly Approves Nomination of Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.), incoming Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, released the statement below following this morning’s meeting where the Committee ordered favorably reported the prospective nomination of Hillary R. Clinton to be Secretary of State by a roll call vote of 16-1.

“The 16 to 1 roll call vote demonstrates the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s overwhelming support for President-Elect Obama’s designee to be Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton,” said Kerry. “America is fortunate that President-Elect Obama has chosen such a smart, talented and experienced individual to serve as our top diplomat. I look forward to working closely with Secretary of State Designee Clinton to restore our international relationships and America’s place in the world.”
