On July 20, President Obama announced his intent to nominate Christopher J. McMullen to be Ambassador to the Republic of Angola. The WH released the following brief bio: Christopher J. McMullen is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister-Counselor. He currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. Previously, Mr. McMullen served as Consul General in Sao Paulo, Brazil and as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Panama. In addition to several Washington assignments, he has served in Nicaragua, Malaysia, El Salvador, Tanzania, and Colombia.
Mr. McMullen earned a Ph.D. in history from Georgetown University, and is a Distinguished Graduate of the National War College.
