Officially In: Donald K. Steinberg and Nancy E. Lindborg to USAID

This week, President Obama announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to USAID. The WH released the brief bios republished below:

Donald K. Steinberg, Nominee for Deputy Administrator
Donald K. Steinberg is currently Deputy President for Policy at the International Crisis Group.  During three decades of U.S. diplomatic service, Mr. Steinberg served as Ambassador to Angola, Director of the State Department and USAID's Joint Policy Council, Special Representative of the President for Humanitarian Demining, Special Haiti Coordinator, Deputy White House Press Secretary, and Special Assistant for African Affairs to President Clinton on the National Security Council.  Other diplomatic postings included South Africa during the transition from apartheid to non-racial democracy, Brazil, Malaysia, Central African Republic and Mauritius.  He also served as senior policy adviser to then-House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt.  Mr. Steinberg is a member of the U.N. Civil Society Advisory Group on Women, Peace and Security, he is a board member of the Women's Refugee Commission, and he previously served on the advisory panel to the executive director of the U.N. Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). 

He holds a B.A. from Reed College in economics, an M.A. from the University of Toronto in political economy, and an M.S. from Columbia University in journalism.

Nancy E. Lindborg, Nominee for Assistant Administrator, Democracy Conflict and Humanitarian Affairs Bureau
Nancy E. Lindborg currently serves as President of Mercy Corps, a global relief and development non-profit organization. Ms. Lindborg also serves as co-president of the board of directors for the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign. Ms. Lindborg formerly served, from 2000-2004, as chair of the Sphere Project Management Committee, an international initiative to improve the effectiveness and accountability of non-governmental organizations.

Ms. Lindborg holds a B.A and M.A. in English literature from Stanford University and an M.P.A. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
