@america Center opens in Jakarta as President Obama visits

Watch online the exclusive live webcast of President Obama's speech @america -- www.atamerica.or.id | Time:10:00AM Wednesday, November 10th

We have posted previously about the planned American Center at a mall in Jakarta in August this year (American Public Outreach Goes to a Shopping Mall in Jakarta).  We have just seen the recently posted video of the official launch which happened months ago by the looks of it as US Ambassador Cameron Hume, who has now departed Indonesia is still in this video.

@america is also now online -- www.atamerica.or.id. Below is a brief description from its website:
The @america center represents a one-of-a-kind, high-technology cultural center where visitors can explore, experience, and express their interests in the United States in fresh and exciting ways.
Mission:

The center is focused on engaging Indonesian high school and university students as well as young professionals. Built on an unprecedented technology backbone, it features many displays calling for a high degree of interactivity with varied and edgy content loaded onto high-tech devices as well as frequent events that are compelling and creative. Located at the Pacific Place Mall in Jakarta, @america is scheduled to open in November 2010.
The @america center is designed to begin and continue a conversation between Indonesians and Americans on a variety of interesting topics. Daily exhibits, events and activities are planned for your knowledge and entertainment.
It offers membership and communities:
What is a community at @america? In the spirit of creating links between the US and Indonesia, the @america center is programmed to facilitate and build the communities that are interesting to you. What interest you about the United States? What experiences have you had relating to the US? Find other similar people and come together to form a group. The @america center at Pacific Place is a fresh and innovative platform from which your community can showcase its interests. The @america center wants you and your community to provide the topics and ideas for programming making it the first user-driven, outreach center in Jakarta.

@america is also in http://www.youtube.com/user/atamericaa and now has a Facebook page
http://www.facebook.com/atamerica with 99 fans. Quite a ways to go before it can catch up with the official Facebook presence of Embassy Jakarta.

Meanwhile, US Embassy Jakarta Facebook is racking up more fans -- currently at 243,801 as of this writing. According to the dashboard put together by the Office of Innovation, US Embassy Jakarta Facebook just gained 26,9918 fans since yesterday.  Since yesterday - big wow!

The dashboard's top pages has not been updated yet. But with eJournal at 213,599 fans, it looks like US Embassy Jakarta Facebook will soon be the top dog in State Department Facebook pages, domestic or overseas.   Tristram Perry over in ConGen Lahore must be smiling.
